Minimum and Recommended Safety Equipment

The minimum safety gear required for your paddlesport is legislated by state transport or maritime departments. It will vary according to the type of waterway you are paddling on (see Definitions of Waterways) - offshore environments have a larger range of safety gear required.

It can get a bit exciting even on supposedly sheltered or 'enclosed' waters - always check the weather forecast (Bureau of Meteorology)  and know how it affects the waterway you intend to paddle. We recommend carrying a greater range of safety equipment no matter where you are paddling - store your gear where it can be easily accessed and know how to use it.

The table below lists the minimum safety gear for Victorian waters and our recommendations for additional equipment.

We can supply all your safety needs (except for flares) - click on button below to learn more about each of these products or download the pdf Minimum and Recommended Safety Gear and click on the pictures to learn more and shop for  the listed items.
